AI Insight #3: Qwen 3 Coder 480B + Qwen Code CLI
September 15th, 2025
Today, we would like to share some insights on 𝗤𝘄𝗲𝗻 𝟯 𝗖𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝟰𝟴𝟬𝗕, the new state-of-the-art Open Source model for agentic coding, and Qwen Code CLI, a command-line interface for AI-powered development.
𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗮𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀:
🔹Qwen 3 Coder 480B natively has a 256K-token context window (extendable to 1.28M tokens)
🔹It supports advanced function calling and agentic workflows
🔹Qwen Code CLI is an agentic coding tool executed directly in the terminal
🔹Developers retain full oversight throughout the coding process due to user approval safeguards
𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗧𝗡𝗚 𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗤𝘄𝗲𝗻 𝟯 𝗖𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝟰𝟴𝟬𝗕 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗤𝘄𝗲𝗻 𝗖𝗼𝗱𝗲 𝗖𝗟𝗜?
At TNG, we run Qwen models locally on our internal compute cluster, eliminating third-party dependencies. While demanding for such large models, this self-hosted approach ensures full data control and enables usage in projects that restrict third-party AI services. Our consultants can combine the self-hosted model with the locally installed Qwen Code CLI for their work in client projects (where permitted) to streamline complex programming tasks. This frees up their time for higher-impact design and problem-solving.
𝗔𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻:
🔹Projects requiring data privacy with no external AI services (thanks to self-hosting and local execution)
🔹Developers valuing fast coding assistance
🔹Integration of a terminal-based workflow alongside traditional IDEs
